Two Leicestershire businesses have been selected as winners at the prestigious Medilink East Midlands Business awards 2017; OCB Media, based in Leicester and Nemaura Pharma, based in Loughborough.

OCB Media is a spinout company from the University of Leicester Medical School, incorporated in 2002. The company focuses on the development of digital healthcare learning interventions and online tools to improve healthcare education and patient outcome. OCB Media’s SCRIPT programme developed in partnership with NHS Health Education England and the University of Birmingham provides a complete prescribing training resource and is currently used by 15,000 foundation trainees in England. SCRIPT is now recognised as a gold standard for training within the NHS, and has significantly reduced NHS training costs. In acknowledgment of this achievement, OCB Media has been awarded the Medilink East Midlands Collaboration with the NHS award.

Dr Nicholas Blackwell, CEO and Owner of OCB, commented;

“We’re delighted with how well the SCRIPT programme has been received by the NHS, and through reducing medication errors, we have significantly improved patient safety. It’s great that this has been recognised by Medilink East Midlands, who have been instrumental in assisting the company’s development.”

The Collaboration with the NHS award was sponsored by the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network.

Professor Mike Hannay, Managing Director, commented;

“We are delighted that OCB Media have won the Collaboration with the NHS award, which we are proud to have sponsored for the fifth year running. Digital technology is becoming a vital and integral part of the NHS system.  Tools like this, which assist healthcare practitioners in education provision will help to improve patient outcomes; OCB’s e-learning programme is already having a huge impact on health education which means better experiences for patients.  We wish them continued success and hope to see more collaborations like this between businesses and the NHS.”

Its patented Micro-Patch™ product provides a highly consistent and effective method for delivering drugs such as vaccines using a low cost disposable device.  Frost & Sullivan, the global growth strategy analysts, recently identified Nemaura’s drug delivery technologies as having the potential to revolutionise the way drugs are delivered in the healthcare system.
