Birmingham, UK – The 5th annual Asian Business Awards Midlands, which honours the continued success and achievements of local Asian businesses, took place on Friday 7th April at the world-famous Edgbaston Stadium. The night also launched the annual Asian Rich List – Midlands, a regional edition of the UK’s definitive compilation profiling the wealthiest Asians in the country.
Morningside Pharmaceuticals collected the prestigious Asian Business of the Year Award. Morningside Pharmaceuticals is a leading supplier to the NHS, with a critical emphasis on making quality healthcare affordable. Other winners included Kailash Suri, Managing Director of Reel Cinemas for Entrepreneur of the Year; Nishti Ismail, Founder of Nishti’s Choice for Community Champion and the Businesswoman of the Year accolade went to Dame Asha Khemka DBE, Principal and CEO of West Nottinghamshire.
It was a double celebration for Morningside Pharmaceuticals who also increased its rank to number five on the Asian Rich List – Midlands, falling just behind powerhouse companies Boparan Holdings, Caparo Holdings, Barker Shows and Liberty House.
The Asian Rich List – Midlands remains the definitive guide to Asian success, wealth and entrepreneurial spirit from the vast British Asian business community in the region. This year’s overall list is valued at an estimated £4.7 billion. 2017 sees theBoparan family maintaining its heaping valuation at £900 million, while Lord Swraj, founder of Caparo Holdings increases in valuation from £500 million in 2016 to £800 million in 2017. The list features three new entries, including fourth rank Sanjeev Gupta of Liberty House with an estimated value of £250 million.

The Asian Business Awards Midlands 2017, managed by the Asian Media & Marketing Group (AMG) is a landmark event attended by the industry’s highest achievers, local celebrities and dignitaries. BBC Asian Network presenter Noreen Khanhosted this year’s event and key guests included Dame Asha Khemka, Amanda Solloway MP, Adrian Bailey MP, Wasim Khan MBE, and Rt Hon Gisela Stuart MP.
