Medilink Midlands Innovation Adviser Alasdair Gaw is pleased to have supported a Nottingham biotechnology company in their successful bid to secure a £50,000 grant from Innovate UK.

Avgo-Flaxby Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of AVGO Biotech Ltd and has been awarded the grant through Innovate UK’s Fast Start programme.

The £50,000 grant will support the company in proving the efficacy of the recycling module part of its innovative RecEgg process, which completes the circularity of converting industrial-scale eggshell waste into pharmaceutical-grade calcium carbonate.

After conducting laboratory trials, the company plans to run a small pilot plant with other components of the circular process at the Net Zero Industry Innovation Centre in Teesside.

As Innovation Adviser to AVGO Biotech, Alasdair provided director Andrew Stacey with business advice and innovation grant support through the ERDF-funded INSTILS project. This support has enabled the company to develop and protect its intellectual property and attract larger scale funding moving forward.

AVGO Biotech founder and director Andrew Stacey said: “This Innovate UK funding was only possible through the support given to AVGO Biotech Ltd by Medilink Midlands. I’d like to thank Alasdair Gaw for his continued patience and support.”
