Innovation is the key for growth within the healthcare and Life Sciences sector. Without innovation the sector would stagnate, so it’s important that companies and innovators are supported with their great ideas and help them get on their pathway from concept to commercialisation.
At Medilink Midlands we are celebrating our 20th anniversary of supporting businesses in the Midlands as we help to do just this.
As a not-for-profit organisation, Medilink Midlands represents the Life Sciences industries. We work across the NHS, SME start-ups, universities and many of the key stakeholders within healthcare and Life Sciences across the Midlands, helping to stimulate innovation and growth in the region. Collaboration is the key to achieving this.
What are Life Sciences?
Life Sciences can be anything from medical technologies such as devices through to digital technologies providing treatment support, biotech, and pharmaceuticals.
Medilink East Midlands launched 20 years ago but in 2020 the company merged with Medilink West Midlands to cover the entire region. It has worked significantly in Leicestershire supporting companies for 10 years over different programmes. The region now recognises health care and Life Sciences as an important sub-sector and has important growth for Leicestershire.
Medilink has worked with companies within the Life Sciences sector in human, animal and plant health, but also supported those companies from other sectors such as space or motorsport, to help them pivot their existing technologies into the Life Sciences sector.
2024 will mark the 20th anniversary of supporting businesses for Medilink Midlands. The Medilink Midlands Business Awards will take place on May 9 at the Athena Leicester and will provide a stage to acknowledge the many Med-Tech and Life Sciences innovations through Medilink’s award finalists, and a chance to celebrate together.
The awards will not only showcase the Midlands innovators but pay tribute to the two decades of business support delivery on behalf of its membership and wider network.

Medilink Midlands is proud to be sponsoring a category at the LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards 2024 that will take place on February 15. It is supporting the Med-Tech and Life Sciences category, which celebrates innovators whose work is enabling people to overcome health challenges.
Leicestershire is home to the UK’s first Life Sciences Opportunity Zone and the sector accounts for more than 14,000 local jobs. Medicines and technology discovered in our region are changing the way people live their lives for the better.
