Loughborough Member of Parliament, Nicky Morgan MP, has warmly congratulated Charnwood Campus based business Almac Pharma Services on passing a regulatory inspection that will allow them to expand; bringing up to 200 additional new jobs to the town.

The company faced an inspection from the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) which allows the multinational pharmaceutical group the relevant licences to commence commercial production of ‘non-potent and potent drugs in solid form’.

Nicky said “I am delighted to hear that Almac Group have successfully passed their inspection by the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
“Whilst the formal title of the accreditation is something of a tongue twister what it means in reality is that Almac can expand its Loughborough base to include the manufacture of medicines bringing, in time, 250 highly skilled scientific jobs to our local area and economy.
“Having Almac as an anchor business at the Charnwood Campus is a huge benefit to our town which will only serve to increase the attractiveness of Loughborough to the wider science and technology sector.”

Graeme McBurney, Managing Director, Almac Pharma Services commented “This is a great achievement and positive reflection of both the investment Almac has made in the site and of our staff operating the facilities.
“We are looking forward to beginning work for our clients at these world class facilities and already have committed projects which will commence in the coming months.”

Gosia Khrais, Commercial and Marketing Director, Charnwood Campus added “I am thrilled with the outcome of Almac’s MHRA inspection. It is yet another milestone in the development of our science and business park that should give anyone wishing to relocate their operations to Charnwood Campus confidence in the site, its staff and infrastructure.
“We are proud to initiate activities that benefit our town and its residents, and will continue to consolidate our efforts to help create jobs, business opportunities and bring investment into Loughborough.”

In addition, Nik Kotecha OBE, CEO at Morningside Pharmaceuticals and LLEP Board member said “This is great news for both Almac and Charnwood Campus. A lot of investment and hard work has gone into developing these world class facilities and the successful MHRA accreditation is a reflection of this. Almac have truly grasped the opportunity offered through location on Charnwood Campus and, with both Enterprise Zone and Life Science Opportunity Zone status, the site is really emerging as key component in the powerful Midlands Life Science cluster.”

The successful inspection means that Almac Pharma Services’ Charnwood Campus site will work closely with the company’s other bases in Craigavon, Northern Ireland and Audubon, Pennsylvania.
