Birmingham healthcare company Salts Healthcare has acquired ostomy product supplier MCare AB of Sweden.

The acquisition of MCare is part of Salts Healthcare’s continued strategy to increase its global reach. Having grown its turnover and market share in the UK in recent years, the family-owned business now has defined international markets across five continents.

Chief executive of Salts Healthcare Peter Salt, based in Aston, said “We are very pleased to welcome MCare into the Salts Healthcare family.

“We have worked closely with MCare for many years and know they also share the same values and ethics.  We look forward to a successful business journey across Sweden and Scandinavia, but most importantly continuing to support the many customers across this region.

“Maud Jägerman built MCare AB into a fantastic business which has grown from strength to strength over the past 20 years. She has built an excellent working relationship across all stoma care networks within Scandinavia and has always had patient care at the centre of the business.

“Our ethos is caring, listening, and innovating to improve lives and as a business we have grown significantly over the last two decades based upon this philosophy.

“We have also invested in new offices, a distribution hub, but most importantly research and development. Indeed, only last year we opened the UK’s first dedicated skin research clinic and a training academy. Both have been game-changers for the stoma care industry.

“With a growing headcount and turnover now touching £120M, our expansion is a success by investing in the best people in the healthcare industry and giving them freedom to grow too.”

Maud Jägerman said “Being a Registered Nurse, it has been a pure pleasure to build a business that actually helps people. It has been wonderful to see customers’ lives improved by supplying stoma care products. Not everybody can say their job helps improve lives.

“I am very proud of what MCare has achieved over the past 20 years, including supplying Salts Healthcare products, and have seen how they have been at the forefront of innovation.

“I am proud of what MCare has achieved and it is with joy and peace of mind that I am handing over my business to Salts.”

Founded in 1701, Aston based Salts Healthcare designs and manufactures products for people living with a stoma. Salts was founded in Wolverhampton before moving into Birmingham. Still 100 per cent family-owned, two brothers Peter and Robert Salt are the tenth generation of the Salt family to be at the helm.
