SUMMARY:WEBINAR: The MindTech Method: improving your chance of success in digital mental health
DESCRIPTION:  \nDigital mental health is an attractive space for SMEs as it offers not only the potential to do good but to do it in new and innovative ways. Despite digital health being a billion-pound industry\, many companies struggle as they face challenges in evaluation and barriers to implementation. On the app store there are thousands of mental health offerings but very few are evidence-based and sustainable. Our mental health system is under immense pressure with a lack of coverage for specific care and long waiting lists. There is both the need and the enthusiasm\, so why is it still so difficult? \nMindTech is a national centre\, funded by NIHR\, focusing on the development\, adoption and evaluation of new technologies for mental healthcare and dementia. MindTech specialises in applications of digital technologies such as computerised therapies and diagnostics\, deployed on smartphone apps\, wearables and virtual reality\, as well as medical devices and assistive technologies. For the past 8 years\, and alongside their Involvement Team who bring expertise by experience\, they have been working with industry\, academia and the NHS to meet the unmet needs of patients\, families and professionals through new technologies. \nThis webinar will provide an overview of MindTech’s research and will share the lessons they have learned through these collaborations from development all the way through to adoption. It will highlight how researchers and companies can work with each other and the NHS to develop and evaluate high quality evidence-based digital mental health interventions that lead to real world adoption. \nMindTech is especially pleased to showcase case study presentations from three of their industry partners: \n– BfB Labs: From problem space to solution to implementation can be a long road. BfB Labs will share their journey to rolling out a multi-award winning ‘Digital therapeutic app’ (CE marked medical device) \n– ProReal: Avatar therapy and virtual world technology in mental healthcare \n– QbTech: Highlighting the support that they had to achieve their many successes \nAfter the presentations there will be a Q&A . \nDURATION: 1.5 hours \nThis webinar is brought to you by the National Institute for Healthcare Research MindTech MedTech Co-operative\, organised and delivered by Medilink Midlands and funded through a University of Nottingham Small Business Engagement Award. \nSpeaker Profiles:\n\nDr. Michael Craven\, Principal Research Fellow\, NIHR MindTech MedTech Co-operative\nMike leads the Technology\, Design and User Experience theme within MindTech. SUMMARY:WEBINAR: BREXIT: Navigating the Maze of Business Travel & Working in the EU
DESCRIPTION:Join this Medilink Midlands webinar in partnership with Make UK to find out what changes companies need to consider in respect of the UK’s new immigration system and the new relationship with the EU as set out in the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA). \nThe ability for UK business visitors to travel to the EU on work-related matters has changed. \nWith the end of freedom of movement business travel between the EU and the UK will no longer be as easy as it once was. \nThe UK and the European Union have negotiated and agreed a new Trade & Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and the transition period ended on 31 December 2020 with the UK leaving the EU Single Market and Customs Union. SUMMARY:*Cancelled* WEBINAR: The Midlands Ecosystem of Bench to Bedside in the Era of MDR and UKCA
DESCRIPTION:**Unfortunately this event has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. We anticipate that it will take place in early 2022\, details to be released in our fortnightly newsletter in due course**\nThe MedTech and medical devices market for the UK has changed. Companies large and small\, having weathered the impacts of COVID-19\, are now faced with further challenges as the EU’s MDR comes into effect and we march towards the time limit on marketing CE marked devices and in vitro diagnostics within the UK and the introduction of the UKCA. These changes present opportunities but companies will have to be prepared if they are to remain profitable\, whilst both maintaining compliance and in achieving compliance for their new devices and diagnostics. \nFortunately the Midlands boasts a thriving ecosystem of MedTech organisations\, networked to provide end to end support for driving innovations from “bench to bedside”. Companies within the Midlands have a multitude of development services which they can access to help take them from ideation to regulation. This webinar in partnership with the Medical Technologies Innovation Facility (MTIF) aims to highlight these services and map out how to both access them and get the most out of that interaction. \nThere will be an opportunity to put your questions to the presenters in a Q&A session after the presentations. \nDuration 1 hr 30 mins \nThis free-to-attend event is held as part of the INSTILS programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project. This event is classed as State Aid to participating businesses\, the value of which is £190\, but is delivered completely free of charge to participants. \nPlease note: whilst this event is held as part of the INSTILS programme\, attendance is not restricted to companies in the D2N2 area and is open to all. \nSpeaker Profiles  \n \nProfessor Mike Hannay\, Managing Director\, Medical Technologies Innovation Facility (MTIF) – CHAIR \nMike is Managing Director of MTIF based in Nottingham.  Funded by Nottingham Trent University and D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership MTIF works with partners across the East Midlands to improve the quality of patient care by helping Med-Tech companies accelerate the development and commercial availability of innovative medical technologies and devices \n  \n  \n  \n  \n Deanne Hewson\, Healthcare Technologies Industry Manager\, University of Nottingham \nDeanne Hewson has worked with businesses and universities for over 20 years\, developing knowledge exchange activities and providing business support. Deanne’s current role with the Centre for Healthcare Technologies focuses on delivery of the INSTILS programme\, offering support to SMEs in the D2N2 region to innovate products\, services and processes. \n  \n  \n

The upcoming SIG will be focussing on this rapidly accelerating field\, looking at the role of the microbiome in human health and how imbalances lead to disease. It will also look at the application of emerging technologies that can be used to better understand the microbiome\, and the development of new therapeutic approaches for associated diseases. \nThis event is in partnership with De Montfort University and led by Dr Katie Laird\, Professor of Microbiology and also Head of the Infectious Disease Research Group at De Montfort University. \nConfirmed speaker presentations:\n– Open Innovation in Biofilms R&D: Translation of Academic Research to Address Industry Needs\n– Manipulating respiratory microbiomes: a role for commensals?\n– Labskin: Commercial Skin models to understand the microbial/host interaction\n– Rapid Prototyping of Microfluidic Systems \nDURATION: 1.5 hours \nThis free to attend event is held as part of the SoLSTICE programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project. This event is classed as State Aid to participating businesses\, the value of which is £190\, but is delivered completely free of charge to participants. \nPlease note: whilst this event is held as part of the SoLSTICE programme\, attendance is not restricted to companies in the Leicester/Leicestershire region and is open to all. \nSpeaker Profiles: \n\nDr Katie Laird\, Professor of Microbiology and Head of the Infectious Disease Research Group at Leicester School of Pharmacy\, De Montfort University \nKatie has a BSc (Hons) in Biology and obtained a PhD in applied microbiology in 2008.
