He is a member of the Department of Health’s National Institute for Health Research invention for innovation funding panel and holds a number of journal editorial positions. His research interests and latest projects centre on new and emerging technologies and materials. This includes wearable technologies\, 3D printing of pathological models\, additive and subtractive manufacturing for medical applications\, surgical robotics\, cardiovascular devices\, augmented /virtual/immersive technologies and environments\, the surgical pathway and investigative research related to the utilisation of ‘smart materials’ for medical applications. Through promoting his work and research activities he now works with a number of surgeons and clinicians across Europe. \n\nBill Byrom\, VP\, Product Intelligence and Positioning\, Signant Health\nBill serves as Vice President at Signant Health\, a clinical trials technology solution provider. He has worked in the Pharmaceutical industry for 30 years and is a recognised thought leader in clinical trials technology product strategy. Bill is the author of over 70 publications and two industry textbooks on electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePRO). He leads a number of industry research groups developing methodology in the use of sensors and wearables\, including participants from the pharmaceutical industry\, regulatory bodies and academia. Bill is a member of the scientific leadership board of the Digital Medicine Society\, and a senior visiting research fellow at Nottingham Trent University. \n \nDr Yang Wei\, Senior Lecturer in Wearable Electronic Engineering\, Nottingham Trent University\nYang is a senior lecturer with the Department of Engineering Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and is currently the research lead of the Smart Wearable Research group. Yang is also the academic expert on smart medical textiles at the Medical Technology Innovation Facility (MTIF)\, a leading smart medical textiles lab. His research interests include electronic textiles (e-textiles)\, medical devices and technologies\, sensors and actuators\, and printing technologies. He is an active steering group committee member of the EPSRC E-Textile network and a member of the IPC Electronic-textile initiative committee\, actively participating in the development of e-textiles standards in interconnections\, design and washability. Yang has been PI/Co-I on a number of electronic textile projects focusing on the development of alternative treatments through novel designs\, materials and fabrication. This allows electronic textiles to be seamlessly and invisibility integrated within the daily garments\, thus maximising the wearability and comfort. \n \nDr Katrina Morgan\, Senior Research Fellow – Optoelectronics Research Centre\, University of Southampton \nWorking in state-of-the-art cleanrooms for over ten years\, Dr Morgan is an expert in developing novel materials for electronic and photonic devices. Working closely with over ten industrial partners in a European wide project\, Smart2Go\, Dr Morgan has been developing wearable thermoelectric generators that can harvest energy from body heat for low-power devices\, such as sensors. More recently Dr Morgan is leading a project\, working with BAE Systems Ltd\, to investigate using such a system to monitor human body temperatures which can then be logged remotely using low-power long-range wireless techniques.

He has published and presented widely in his expert field of genetic toxicology and also in the wider area of safety assessment. Chorley Consulting designs safety assessment programmes for medical devices and also provides toxicological advice for a range of product types. Philip is presently a BSI committee member for CH/194 (Biological evaluation of medical devices).\nChorley Consulting works with a number clients ranging from multinational manufacturers to single product start-ups. They have experience with assessing the biological safety of a wide range of devices including cosmetic surgery products\, surgical implants\, anaesthetic gas devices\, catheters and invasive patient monitoring systems as well consumer healthcare products ranging from Class 3 devices down to Class 1. Their biological safety assessments have formed part of technical file submissions to a number of notified bodies without comment as well as supporting clinical trial applications. They also have experience with medical device submissions to regulatory authorities around the world including US FDA and China NMPA. \n

A commercial mentor on the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur’s programme\, Dean further supports commercial healthcare organisations through his role on the Board of the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership\, where he Chairs the Healthcare Strategic Advisory Board\, sits on the Innovation Council and also represents the GLLEP on the Midlands Engine’s Health Board.  Dean became a Professor in the Practice of Healthcare Management at Cass Business School in 2010 and Chaired the Centre for Healthcare Enterprise. He is currently Chair of both the Centre for Organisational Resilience and the Lincoln International Institute for Rural Healthcare at the University of Lincoln where he is a Professor of Resilience. He is also a Professorial Fellow of the Institute of Mental Health and an Honorary Professor in Healthcare Leadership at the Nottingham University Business School.  In addition to being the Chair of separate Acute\, Community and Mental Health NHS Trusts\, Dean has also Chaired NHS commissioning bodies. With a strong interest in leadership\, workforce development and digitisation\, Dean has held roles on ancillary NHS bodies such as the NHS Confederation’s Mental Health Network\, NHS Providers and the NHS Leadership Academy\, supporting numerous national and regional initiatives. He chairs the working group on Augmented Reality Learning Experience Models (ARLEM) of the IEEE Standards Association as well as the Natural Language Processing task view of the Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN). He is convenor of a key standards working group\, WG 11\, for future-proofing AR/VR in a joint technical committee of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)\, part of the sub chapter for computer graphics\, image processing\, and environmental data representation (SC24)\nFrom 2015 to 2020\, Fridolin was Senior Research Fellow at Oxford Brookes University. From 2009 to 2016\, he was at the Knowledge Media Institute of the OU. Fridolin also worked as a researcher at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in Austria from 2004 to 2009. Antimicrobial resistant infections are also becoming increasingly common\, which can make these challenging infections even more difficult to treat safely and effectively. During her PhD she developed and patented an essential oil based antimicrobial vapour\, whilst her postdoctoral work included the assessment of natural antimicrobials efficacy against post-harvest pathogens.\nHer research interests include the use of natural products as antimicrobials in particular to combat hospital acquired infections and biofilms.  Her other area of research includes the assessment of healthcare laundry as a potential route of cross contamination in the clinical arena. \n~\nDr Ryan Hamilton\, Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy\, De Monfort University\nRyan is a clinical academic pharmacist spending time as a senior lecturer at De Montfort University School of Pharmacy and as a clinical pharmacist at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.\nIn academia\, he teaches specialist and generalist pharmacy practice to undergraduate pharmacy students and is clinical lead for the Antimicrobial Resistant and Stewardship module of the postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy. He is an active researcher within the Infectious Diseases Research Group with projects spanning all areas of practice from bench to bedside.\nAt Kettering General Hospital he is one of the lead pharmacists for microbiology & infectious diseases and chairs the Northamptonshire Antimicrobial Medicines Optimisation Group. He has specialised in antimicrobials since 2015 with expertise in managing patients with complex and difficult to treat infections\, outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy\, guideline and policy development\, and stewardship interventions.  Outside of these roles\, Ryan has developed award-winning outreach and engagement programmes relating to hygiene\, infection\, and antimicrobial resistance. \n\nDr Michael Pierides – Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust\nMichael is a Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinolog\, having trained in the East and West Midlands. He has an interest in education and completed a MSc in Medical Education at Warwick Medical School. He has been educational lead for the department since 2013\, as well as a faculty member of the international surgical training course: ESMSC (since 2015). Beyond traditional delivery of education he is also involved in developing high fidelity simulation training.\nHis main role centres around diabetic foot medicine. He is the regional lead for the multidisciplinary diabetic foot service in Northamptonshire. From the beginning he was interested in diabetic foot disease and started a multidisciplinary foot round with a vascular consultant and specialist podiatrist\, in 2015. Since then the service has progressed to be a full Multidisciplinary Countywide service for 2 hospitals and the county of Northamptonshire\, with a podiatry delivered service feeding in to the diabetic foot service\, Virtual ‘Rapid access clinics’ and specialist high risk foot clinics with Orthopaedics\, all supported by Specialist Pharmacists\, specialist nurses\, Radiologists and Microbiology. “This is a true Team Effort and I am proud to be part of it.” \n\nPhillip Laycock\, Technical Research Director\, Biocomposites Ltd\nPhillip is the Technical Research Director at Biocomposites\, an international medical device company that engineers\, manufactures and markets world leading products for use in infection management in bone and soft tissue. Based in Keele\, UK\, it has global operations across Europe\, USA\, Canada\, China and India. Biocomposites is a world leader in the development of innovative calcium compounds for surgical use. UHB has a number of pathways and systems to provide licensed access to health data and consultancy. This includes two HDR-UK Hubs: PIONEER and INSIGHT. These Hubs have specific areas of expertise\, from acute care (PIONEER) to eye-health (INSIGHT). UHB can also provide grant application guidance\, regulatory support\, clinical evaluation\, and public and patient involvement consultancy. \nThe virtual engagement event will give SME’s access to credible experts and facilitate collaboration from across the NHS\, academia and our partners.
