Chris Barker, CEO & Chief Mischievist of Spirit Health Group has been named as one of LDC’s Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders for 2020.

Now in its third year, the programme, which is supported by The Telegraph, celebrates the inspiring leaders behind some of the UK’s most successful and fast-growing medium-sized firms.

There were more than 350 nominations and those profiled hail from every corner of the country, operate across a multitude of industries, employ more than 5,250 people and collectively contribute more than £1bn to the UK economy.

Chris founded Spirit in 2009 with the belief that health should be as easy as possible for citizens and healthcare services. His focus at Spirit is to build the best team to tackle the most difficult challenges (like, how to make health easy for everyone!).

Commenting on his inclusion in the UK’s Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders, Chris comments: “Never before has the nation’s health been so much in the spotlight. I am hugely proud of the work that we have accomplished over recent years – and particularly in the last months – which has helped us make great inroads to achieving our aim. Working collaboratively with a number of NHS stakeholders, including commissioners, GPs, carers and patients, we are now saving the NHS millions of pounds on prescriptions, improving access to education and reducing unplanned hospital admissions.”

John Garner of LDC added: “The UK has a long-standing reputation for its entrepreneurial endeavour, but there has never been a more important time to recognise or back ambition in British business. The LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders aims to do just that. All of the inspiring leaders featured in our Top 50 this year have driven their business forward during a period of adversity, whether by expanding internationally, delivering real innovation, showcasing resilience or making a difference in their communities. They all deserve their place and I look forward to seeing their continued success.”

LDC is the UK’s leading mid-market private equity firm. Backed by Lloyds Banking Group, LDC is committed to investing £1.2bn over the next three years to support the ambitions of management teams leading mid-market businesses across the UK.
