Micro-placements offer businesses the opportunity to work with a student or graduate free of charge for up to 80 hours with a free matching service provided by the BCU Careers+ team.

The programme has supported almost 400 students since its inception and their experience with local businesses and organisations has boosted their future career prospects and confidence.

Placements are typically ran over a four-week period with students/graduates working 20 hours per week. It is also possible to run the placement over an eight-week period (10 hours per week) if this works better for the student and business. Placements will start on set dates in June, July and August.

Students will be paid the National Living Wage by Birmingham City University, and this is administered through our partner agency. If  successful in recruiting a student then BCU will pass on the company details to the agency, which will need to go through an initial screening process in order to check that each business has the appropriate insurance and follows required health and safety procedures.

All businesses will have an account manager to review the job description, coordinate the matching and interview process and to provide ongoing support whilst the student is on placement.

If your organisation can support aspiring students in life sciences and healthcare sector expand their career development opportunities, contact Kareem Hameed, [email protected], to take part in the programme.
