Leicester-based product design and innovation consultancy, Bluefrog Design, has been awarded the Design Team of the Year Award, at the British Engineering Excellence Awards 2019.

The British Engineering Excellence Awards (BEEAs) were launched in 2009 to champion and celebrate design innovation and excellence. Since then, the BEEAs have grown in stature and in the number of companies entering to become the foremost engineering accolade for design.

Each year, hundreds of entries are debated and analysed by a judging panel of industry experts, which includes the winners of the previous year’s Grand Prix and Design Engineer of the Year Awards.

Bluefrog won the Design Team of the Year award for its work done with air quality expert EarthSense. In this category, the Judges were looking for entrants demonstrating the successful use of teamwork in the creation of an engineering or electronic product or system. In assessing the entries, the Judges wanted to see how the team was composed and evidence of how its members interacted to meet budget and project milestones. Bluefrog worked alongside EarthSense’s engineers to develop the Zephyr®. This is a compact and robust air quality sensor, which can measure pollution, temperature and humidity in urban environments, enabling the world to understand and solve its air quality issues, and informing the world’s population on the serious impacts of air pollution.
