The 2024 Blue Zone Consortium Flexible Talent Mobility Award (FTMA) funding call is now open.

By 2040, nearly one in seven people in the UK is projected to be aged over 75, many living with multiple morbidities. By contrast, blue zones are areas across the world with lower rates of chronic disease, where people live longer healthier lives.

The Blue Zone Consortium promotes cross-sectoral collaboration, increase co-creation of research and clarity of ideas and technologies through the transfer of people.

It aims to create both stronger relationships between universities and other sectors, and innovative solutions to support blue zone outcomes, improving human health in the real world. The consortium offers numerous opportunities, including cross-sector networking, access to funding, and free training for members.

About the FTMA

The FTMA is intended to support secondments and other activities that contribute to the mobility and development of researchers and technical professionals in academia and other sectors (industry, healthcare, charities etc.).   Activities proposed must align with one or more of the Blue Zone Consortium themes: metabolic health, healthy ageing across the life course, and transformative technologies. The consortium particularly welcomes applications within the UKRI’s strategic theme: ‘Securing better health, ageing and wellbeing’.

The Blue Zone Consortium will provide funding for successful projects with durations of up to six months. These projects can have a full economic cost (FEC) of up to £15,000, with the Blue Zone Consortium covering 80% of the FEC. Applications close 23 October 2024.
