AdamsonJones, the Nottingham-based firm of patent and trade mark attorneys, has recently opened an office in Leicester, their third office in the East Midlands. The growth of Leicestershire’s engineering and manufacturing sector was a key reason for the choice of location. Key members of the firm also have history with the city.

Nic Ferrar, director and patent attorney, heads up the Leicester office, which is open 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Nic explains why Leicester was an obvious choice of location for the new office “Leicester has a relatively high proportion of manufacturing enterprises – 13.4% compared to the national average of 6.3%. As our company has grown so has our breadth of technical expertise and we consider high-tech manufacturing and engineering to represent not only a core area of expertise for us, but also a key strength in the Leicestershire economy. We are keen to support innovation in this sector over the coming years.”

Set up in 2000 as a single practitioner firm by Steve Jones, the company initially focused on providing intellectual property protection and advice to companies within the life sciences, healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. AdamsonJones has grown rapidly since then, quadrupling in size and turnover. The firm now employs 9 patent attorneys with a varied range of scientific and engineering backgrounds, including a team of attorneys dedicated to working with clients in the engineering and design sector.

The company also has strong ties with the city as both Nic Ferrar and Steve Jones previously worked in Leicester at patent and trade mark attorney firm, Marks & Clerk. The company looks forward to returning to Leicester and building on the relationships it has with professional services firms in the area.

Nic said “It’s an exciting time for Leicester and the region as a whole, with the Midlands Engine initiative providing a real opportunity to drive economic growth.”

“By locating ourselves in the heart of the city, AdamsonJones aims to support innovation within the Leicester business community through tailored intellectual property advice and protection for companies involved in bringing new products and services to market.”
