Specialist chair and bed supplier, Oak Tree Mobility, is introducing technology developed by Cambridge Sleep Sciences to their furniture range. SoundAsleep consists of two speakers — seamlessly built into Oak Tree Mobility’s range of tailor-made adjustable beds and rise and recline chairs — that play unintrusive, gentle soundwave patterns to help retrain the brain and support natural, healthy sleep.
This move represents the first exclusive collaboration between Oak Tree Mobility and Cambridge Sleep Sciences, whose technology has been developed and refined over a decade by their team of researchers, scientists, medical professionals, and sound engineers.
How it works:
● The principle behind the technology is known as auditory neuromodulation, which involves playing structured, low-frequency sounds that resonate with the slow-wave activity patterns that occur in the brain during deep sleep.
● When the brain is exposed to these waveforms, it naturally synchronises with the rhythm, supporting more stable and consistent sleep cycles.
● In an independent study involving participants with a history of insomnia, 92% saw their sleep improve. On average, they experienced 155 more minutes of sleep and a 55% reduction in the number of times they woke in the night 1. Another study, recently unveiled at World Sleep Congress 2025, showed participants fell asleep 40% faster, spent 51 minutes less time awake, and reported an improvement in their sleep quality 2.
Sleep expert and neurophysiologist, Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, said:
“Your brain is meant to follow a natural pattern of four sleep stages every night, but things like stress, poor sleep habits, and changes in routine can interrupt this pattern. When that happens, it becomes harder to fall asleep and stay asleep. Restoring a natural sleep rhythm can improve mood, memory, energy levels, and overall wellbeing, so you can wake up ready to enjoy the day ahead.
“What’s particularly exciting is that research shows certain types of acoustic stimulation can strengthen this natural rhythm and boost memory. A 2013 study found that playing sounds in sync with the brain’s slow oscillations enhanced both sleep and memory consolidation, while a similar 2017 study found an overnight improvement in memory recall among older adults. In other words, when carefully formulated ‘sleep sounds’ are used to support natural brain rhythms during sleep, it not only helps you drift off, but actively supports memory and
cognitive health.”
Key features of SoundAsleep include:
1. Two-speaker stereo sound: These are invisibly embedded into Oak Tree Mobility’s range of adjustable beds and rise and recline chairs, and play gentle sleep sounds that are designed to support the natural brainwaves created during healthy sleep.
2. Four sleep programmes: Each has been scientifically developed to provide the best possible sleep, and features optional alarms to wake you up gently. ‘Deep Sleep’ offers a gold-standard 8 hours, while ‘Easy Sleep’ adapts to shorter schedules, and ‘Fall Asleep’ is designed to guide you into deep rest if you struggle to get to sleep. The flexible ‘Power Nap’ mode offers 30, 45, or 60-minute naps for an energising boost.
3. Easy to control: Change sleep programmes and audio directly from Cambridge Sleep Sciences’ dedicated smartphone app. The speaker volume is adjustable, allowing full control over your preferred sound levels, though playing them at the cusp of your own hearing is recommended.
4. Disruption-free: Because SoundAsleep is integrated within Oak Tree Mobility’s furniture, there’s no need to wear bulky headphones or use tinny Bluetooth speakers.
It’s also not susceptible to the pings and alerts that can disrupt sleep when using phone apps, providing a consistent and undisturbed sleep.
5. Unmatched by alternatives: Generic ‘sleep’ playlists and tones don’t support the brain’s natural progression through the four stages of sleep that are needed for full, restorative rest. In contrast, the sounds developed by Cambridge Sleep Sciences are specifically designed to guide the sleeper smoothly through these cycles by acting as an external pacing mechanism.
