Cellomatics Biosciences welcomes two newcomers to the company this month.  The appointments of Filipe Hanson and Emma Barker as Bio-Assay Scientists boosts the numbers at the growing Nottingham-based Contract Research Organisation.

Filipe, 28, is from Lisbon, Portugal.  He moved to the UK after completing his undergrad course in Biology to do his masters in molecular medicine at the University of Sheffield.  He moved to neighbouring Sheffield Hallam University to complete his PhD in cell biology applied to neurodegeneration.

Before joining Cellomatics, Filipe took up a six month post-doc position at Sheffield Hallam University – usually restricted to those with PhD’s, but extended to Filipe during his final stages of study – looking into drug diffusion in 3D colorectal cell models.

Filipe is looking forward to exploring the different therapeutic fields covered by Cellomatics and, in particular, its plans to evolve into neurodegeneration.. a subject that has already whet his appetite.

Emma, 26, joins Cellomatics directly from completing her PhD at the University of Nottingham.

Her love of science is perhaps genetic, with dad being a Bio-Medical Scientist and mum a Clinical Bio-Chemist, both now retired.

Emma did her degree in Biochemistry at Nottingham Trent University and followed that with her PhD in stem cell glycobiology at the University of Nottingham which she completed last month.

Emma’s looking forward to working with cell models and investigating how they translate.

“We are delighted to have Filipe and Emma here with us at Cellomatics.  Both their enthusiasm and energy make them an ideal fit for the team,” comments Dr Anushuya Tamang, Study and Operations Director.
