A Charnwood Campus NHS and Academia Collaboration Platform event, part of a series of events to support the growth and success of the life science organisations clustered around Charnwood Campus Science, Innovation and Technology Park

Companies in the region looking to develop new healthcare technologies can now join a series of face to face workshops at Charnwood Campus developed by the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN). Academic Health Science Networks are the innovation arm of the NHS who identify, test and spread, innovative and more economic solutions that reduce the time taken to improve services for patients. The workshops will enable companies to have individual confidential discussions regarding the development of new products, from advice on funding all the way through to engaging with the NHS.

Gosia Khrais, Commercial Director at Charnwood Campus said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce that the Campus is hosting a series of Health Innovation Surgeries with EMAHSN as part of our NHS and Academic Collaboration Platform (NACP).  The NACP programme targets pre-start-ups, start-ups and SMEs and also larger organisations to identify and successfully bridge skills, resource, expertise and/or financial gaps.“

“The programme is an integral part of a wider Charnwood Campus Cluster Support Package that the Campus Team developed around 4 pillars:

  • Skills – LSTSI, Life Sciences Talent and Skills Institute that is already offering student placements, apprenticeships and upskilling opportunities
  • Leadership – EMN, Expert Mentor Networks offering peer learning and mentoring services as well as access to training leadership programmes
  • Life Sciences Cluster Support – Events, Conferences and Workshops around starting and growing a successful business, finance, market access, infrastructure and supply chain strengths
  • NHS and Academia Collaboration – NACP, facilitating collaboration between researchers, university led programmes and NHS, innovators and entrepreneurs”.

This series of workshops will provide our cluster companies direct access to NHS and commercial experts, facilitating the commercialisation of new technologies, life-saving therapeutics and ways of working to offer the NHS financial savings, whilst improving services and treatments for patients”.

Tim Robinson, Commercial Director, East Midlands Academic Health Science Network said: “Our Health Innovation Surgeries provide advice and support for innovators and entrepreneurs at any stage of the business cycle; from start-up, through research and evidence to globalisation. If you’re looking

to understand how to approach the NHS, not quite sure what is required, want to know what funding is available, or need some guidance on key requirements such as PPI (Patient and Public Involvement), Value Proposition, Cost/benefit Analysis, etc. then the surgery and our experts are here to help.”

Dr Nik Kotecha OBE, LLEP Board Member and Chair of its Innovation Board, said: “Life sciences are a hugely important part of the region’s innovation offer. Events which bring researchers, healthcare specialists and entrepreneurs together to find innovative ways of improving services and products for patients are to be commended. It’s great that this is happening here in Leicestershire after Charnwood Campus led the way in becoming the first Life Sciences Opportunity Zone in the UK.”

Dr Lucy Alexander, Head of Business Development, Charnwood Campus said: “These workshops will provide a face to face confidential meeting between the NHS Innovation experts and our cluster companies. Each meeting slot will last an hour and will enable our innovators and experts to really explore a project in great depth and identify the next step in the innovation pathway. We are running four workshops this year and really hope you will be able to join us, to ignite your innovation journey.”

Workshop dates are 21st September, 19th October, 23rd November & 14th December, 9 am to 12 pm
